Day 145- Muse Concert

We went to the Muse concert last night and this is one of the pictures I took. I have some better ones that are closer but this one shows all three of them and their cool stage. The blocks they are standing on would raise and lower through out the entire show and always had cool pictures on the sides of them. Pretty awesome concert.

Day 144- Veggie Garden

This is a picture of my veggie garden that I planted yesterday. I used 15 buckets and planted tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, jalapenos and bell pepper. I did a garden like this several years ago and it did pretty good so I decided to give it a go again! Wish me luck!

Day 141- Crawdad Hole

Well I know this isn't all that exciting but I thought I'd post it anyhow. this is a crawdad/crayfish/crawfish hole. These are very common around here and if your dog isn't careful one might pop out and catch his lip (just ask Jiggs)!!!!! These are a pain in the neck when you are mowing and your yard is covered in them. You have to knock them over because some of them can get pretty big! They dig from undergound and push the mud up with a tunnel in the middle.

Day 122- Mystery pepper plant

While watering one day I looked over and saw this pepper plant growing out of my shrub. I have no clue as to where it came from or what it is!!! We have lived here for three years and this is the first time I've ever seen it!

Day 121- Pedernales Falls

This is a beautiful place to visit. Even more so now. Texas has been in an extreme drought and the water levels are way down. If you look at the rock here you can see where the water levels are usually. This is Pedernales Falls in Texas. Its a long hike down and on the way down this lady was coming up and had to keep resting. She stopped to talk to me and tell me that she had just scattered her husbands ashes there. It was his favorite place and that is what he wanted. I was so sad for her that she had to do it alone. I can't blame him for wanting it though, just look at the picture!!!

Day 120- Lake Travis, Austin Texas

We went camping over the 4th of July weekend to a place called Pace Bend Park. It sits on Lake Travis and this is the view we had every day of camping. It has tons of cliffs and we would go out and sit on the cliff in the evening and enjoy the hot breeze!

Day 119- Praying Mantis

Day 118- It rained!!!

Finally after over 30 days without rain, it rained. It was a true blue storm with thunder and lightening. I was able to catch this lightening strike. It's really bright isn't it!

Day 115- My new best friend

This is my new best friend lately. It's been so dry here, as you can tell from my grass. I've been having to water every single day to keep my veggies and flowers alive. It's too hot and it's been over a month since it rained. Of course it rained yesterday all around me but never one drop at my house.

Day 113- Cicada

These are the loudest little insects ever! It's very rare to actually see one up close like this. The little brown shell, called a nymph, is what the insect lives in until it is adult and ready to fly. It usually climbs into a tree and then hatches. This one I found on a wooden railing so I was really happy to see it!!

Day 108- Blooming Cactus

This is the flower that my cactus is blooming right now. It only blooms once a year and is a really pretty pink color!

Day 107- Corn

I just love fresh corn on the cob. I got this corn to put on the pit. Just peel back the husk, clean the fibers, rub well with butter, sprinkle with a little garlic powder then pull the husk back up and throw on the pit. No soaking needed and boy is it good!!

Day 106- Saying Goodbye

Today was the switch to Digital TV and I had to say goodbye to my old friend. This tv is so old that it doesn't have hookups for anything. I have it in my kitchen to watch the news while I"m cooking. I hate to part with it because it still works if it weren't for the dtv transition. Oh well, I guess it's time to move on to better things!

Day 104- Sewing

Well I've decided to finally tackle my lace curtains. I was given eight panels a little over a year ago. I got them hung but they were all way too long and some needed to be re-sewn at the top. I left them hanging the way they were because I didn't want to mess with them. I am a novice sewer so I was a little scared about messing them up. I decided that they just needed to be done and it doesn't matter what they look like when I'm done!!! So far so good!

My crepe myrtle's are finally blooming!!! Yippee!!!!! I've been seeing all the ones in my neighborhood blooming but mine. I just love the big bright blooms they produce. I have two pink and one white white.

day 101- Baby Feet

I took my niece on a photo shoot in my front yard. She is three months old and this was the first time her little feet had ever touched grass!!! She was so cute too. She had her little toes squirming all over the place! The dark spot you see on her left foot is a birthmark.

Day 95- Aphid

I am always battling these little buggers. They are actually kinda funny if you watch them. When you get close to them they go sideways and under a leaf to try and hide from you. It took me a little work to get this picture because he kept running from me but I finally got it!

I decided to try out this topsy turvy upside down tomato planter. I have to say so far it's working great. I have a couple of cute little tomatoes growing on it! It's easy too, no weeding required!!!

Day 93- Gladiolus

I have some gladiolus growing in my flower bed and I just love them!!!! This is one of my favorites. The color is beautiful. I wish they bloomed year round! I got the blubs at the dollar store a few years ago and they never fail to bloom! They are must have in any garden!

This is an orange tree that I've had planted in this pot for several years. I get oranges from it every year. This last year some vinca that I had planted someplace else decided to transplant itself! I didn't know vinca would do that! I love how it looks with the tree though! I wish all flowers were so easy!

Day 87- It's all about the hair

I have that kind of hair that you either have to work hard at to fix it or throw it in a ponytail. There isn't any of that washing, letting it dry on it's own and it looking good. I have super thick hair and it tends to have a mind of it's own. It seems that the hairdresser does too! Every time I go and ask her to do something she always puts her own twist on it. This was my last haircut that I had done a few days ago. The back of my hair will do OK but if I were to show you the front view you'd scream!!

Here lately we have been having some really bad storms.This one rolled in yesterday afternoon around 6:00. It got really dark and rained a ton. Then this morning it rained more. Some areas got 10"!

This Bobby Bob. He is a 19 year mandrill. In the wild they live to be around 20 but in captivity their life span is 25-30 years old. Today he was really showing off for everyone!

This is Solaris and his dad, Doc. Solaris is a five year old Bornean Orangutan. His dad is under the blanket! They all love to cover their heads ups. Today he was really getting on his dad's nerves and his dad kept pushing him down. Little Solaris just kept getting up and doing it all over again. He doesn't know how to take no for an answer! LOL!! Sound like any 5 years you know!!!

It was such a beautiful day today and these flags really looked great against the blue sky. The top one, for those of you who don't know, is the American flag. I was super close to missing this awesome sunset last night!!! I got up to close the blinds and saw this!!! The top picture was taken first and the bottom one was taken about a minute later. I just stood there and kept shooting until all the red was gone!! It was even more amazing in real life!

Day 52- Orangutan

This is one of the female orangutan's at the zoo. She is around 25 years old and has a five year old. This was her taking a break while daddy was attending to the youngster. I hope to get a pic of the baby soon..he is super cute!

Day 51- Cheetah's

Here is a picture of a couple of cheetah's. These guys thought I had some food and kept watching me. This girl in front even tried to sniff my camera! It's interesting that they have them in with some African Shepherd Dogs. The reason is to show that in Africa instead of killing the cheetah's the farmers are getting these dogs to keep them away from their livestock. The dogs are domesticated and seem to get along well with the cheetah's.
